ROMXc+ is an in-system programmable device that replaces the Monitor ROM and optionally the Video and/or MAP ROMs. It stores up to 15 ROM images, and presents them for selection via an on-screen menu system. In addition, the menu system itself (the ROMXc+ firmware) is updateable in-system. The ROMXc+ comes standard with an on-board clock (backup battery included).

What do we mean by In-System Programmable? This simply means that you can re-program ROMXc+ with your own ROM images and updates without removing the device from your computer, and without need for an external IC Programmer. Uploading of new ROM images is done through either the ROMXc+ boot menu, or by running the ROMX.DISK utility from the ROMXc+ floppy disk image. The firmware image is also upgradeable using the same process.

The ROMXc+ comes as pictured with the system ROM adapter. You can also add the optional 28-pin Text ROM with ROM-Link cable (sold separately), that can be selected from the ROMXc+ menu also, or associated with a specific system ROM. The large 32K banks can also hold DOS, ProDOS, and complete programs for instant loading on power up. The ROMXc+ is preloaded with a number of ROM images including basic diagnostics.

Note: Most IIc+ systems  have their Text ROM and MAP ROM soldered to the motherboard. Please be sure to check if you have a socket on your motherboard before placing the order for those options.

Hardware Requirements:
ROMXc+ will work in any Apple IIc+.
However, the optional Text ROM and MAP ROM require that those IC’s are socketed on your motherboard.
If these chips are soldered to your motherboard (without sockets) then you will need to modify your motherboard to use these options.
The Text ROM adds 2 banks of 16 selectable fonts; the bank is chosen by the Keyboard layout switch on the //c+ (next to the reset key). However, this switch will also change the keyboard from its QWERTY layout to Dvorak. You can prevent this by also replacing the MAP ROM with our version. Please see the ROMXc+ Installation Guide for more details. Contact us if you need help having your motherboard modified for you.

Addition Info :

Comes with ROMXc+ board only. Those that wish to modify their //c+ motherboard can also order the 28-pin Text ROM and/or MAP ROM to allow access to all 32 fonts from the keyboard.

For the optional Text ROM board, order the 28-pin ROMXce Video ROM.
